Chelmsford Public School is now accepting applications for the position of: Special Education Chairperson
Location: Various Schools-- Elementary & Middle School Levels
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Qualifications:
* Master’s Degree, with specialization in special education
* Massachusetts DESE License as an administrator-- Special Education is preferred
* At least five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience
* Depth of knowledge regarding special education laws, regulations, processes and procedures
* Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills enabling information sharing and the development of trusting
relationships with parents, staff, outside evaluators, advocates and administrators
* Skill in interpreting assessments and determining educational interventions in response to a learning profile
* Demonstrated skill in meeting facilitation, case management, communication and pedagogy
* Demonstrated ability to effectively manage the special education referral and team process
* Experience supervising and evaluating staff is strongly preferred
* Teaching or other special education service skill that will benefit the district
Responsibilities:
* Manage special education eligibility process, including chairing team meetings and case management
* Ensure IEPs meet all regulatory and district standards, are written to reflect best practice, reflect high quality programming and are
implemented with integrity
* Work with building-based teams to develop and implement efficient and effective service delivery models reflecting best practice
* Manage complex and challenging cases, by maintaining effective parent, staff, advocate and outside evaluator contact
* Work collaboratively with the Director of Student Services, Principals and Curriculum Coordinators to provide in-building technical
assistance and to develop and implement high-quality professional development for all staff
* Identify and request authorization from the Director of Student Services for any service not provided by Chelmsford Public Schools
* Observe, supervise and evaluate special education teachers and related service providers ensuring high quality special education
service delivery
* Supervise special education support staff, including Special Education Paraprofessional Staff
* Participate in and contribute to student support team meetings
* Plan for and contribute to effective transitions for students and their families
* Work with other special education chairpersons to insure consistency, cohesion and coordination of practices across the district
* Any other direct service responsibilities as determined by the Principal and/or Director of Student Services including but not limited
to: extended year services, special transportation, scheduling and program development
Terms of Employment: 12 Months; Salary and terms are in accordance with the Chelmsford’s Administrator Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
