JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Middle School Faculty
Job Purpose Statement: Middle School Instructors should be joyful disciples, have a knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic intellectual tradition, classical and liberal arts pedagogy, a passion for educating and forming Christian youth, and a spirit of adventure. Important characteristics include: competence in the subject areas taught, a focus on student learning in the primary grades, classroom management skills, ability to collaborate on a team, and enthusiasm.
Specific duties related to the function of Lower School Faculty Member:
- Teach a full or part-time complement of courses in the Middle School and in accord with the Chelsea Academy curriculum and scope and sequence.
- Mentor middle-school age children and develop their intellectual, social, and spiritual growth.
- Communicate in a timely manner with parents and students on academic progress and on disciplinary issues.
- Work cooperatively with the Dean of Academics in developing a coherent curriculum for the Middle and Upper Schools.
- Work cooperatively with Lower, Middle, and Upper School faculty in developing and delivering a coherent and integrated curriculum.
- Work cooperatively with and under the direction of the Dean of Students in areas of student discipline.
- Participate in the Chelsea Academy Student Life Program and assist in areas of spiritual development of students and extracurricular life.
- Participate actively in faculty and departmental meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES
- Required: Practicing Catholic in good standing
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree; classroom experience in classical curriculum and pedagogy.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree; Virginia Teacher’s License (not required)
- Other Desired Qualifications:
- Polished and effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to develop and deliver effective lesson plans
- Ability to manage well a classroom environment
- Ability to relate well with students
- Ability to be flexible in a smaller-school environment
- Willingness to coach or moderate student activities and co-curriculars
REPORTS TO: Dean of Academics and Headmaster
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: This is position is for the academic year (August-June). Evenings and weekends are sometimes required.
