About the Opportunity
Chelsea Piers is seeking to hire part-time Swim Instructors to join our team and provide excellent instruction to children from infants to 13 years old.
Swim Instructors are responsible for instructing class attendees on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum. At the Chelsea Piers Swim School, our mission is to provide any child the skills needed for a lifetime of confidence and enjoyment in the water. We strive to build a solid water safety and technical foundation from an early age. We work toward building up positive young minds and bodies throughout the stages of our effective swim program. We are looking for Swim Instructors who can instruct one or more 30-minute or 40-minute swim class per week for the entirety of our 18-week semester. Our classes mainly take place from 4pm-6pm on weekdays and throughout the morning on weekends.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead swim classes for children from infants up to 13 years old, according to Chelsea Piers Swim School Curriculum.

Ability and willingness to be trained on Chelsea Piers Swim School Curriculum and implement in all classes.

Attend all staff meetings and contribute ideas to improve our Swim School.

Be vocal and animated, bringing energy and enthusiasm to each class you teach.

Be punctual, ensuring your teaching area is setup before the start of class and that your class starts and ends on time.

Clean up area after classes.

Ability to organize classes based on ability of swimmers; convey key points in articulate and age-appropriate manner.

Team player with willingness to fill in for teammates when needed.

Provide a personalized experience by learning students names and understanding where they are in the program progression. Keep detailed notes that are accessible onsite.

Complete progress reports and report cards to give valuable feedback to our customers by the designated deadlines established by the program director

Teach at a variety of levels and pool depths.
Qualifications

Background in competitive swimming or teaching swim lessons preferred.

Experience working with children preferred.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Strong customer service skills.

Strong decision-making abilities.

Ability to work extended hours as needed.
Compensation:
-
Training: $16 / hour
-
Class Rate: $18-$24 / hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Part-Time, weekday afternoons and evenings, weekend mornings; hours depend on business needs and your availability
