Main Objectives / Objetivos principales:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Reduce total costs of insurance.
- Reduce Vehicle out of service percentage by 8.2 %.
- Reduce Driver out of service percentage by 1.7%.
- Reduce vehicular accidents to a minimum of 0 accidents per 1 MM miles.
- Promote a safety-conscious culture among employees and drivers.
Main Challenges / Retos Principales:
- Ensuring adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations while managing driver records, logbooks, and safety audits to avoid violations.
- Promoting safe driving habits through training and enforcement while overcoming resistance to safety protocols.
- Reducing risks through proactive safety measures, accident investigations, and managing claims to protect the company.

Duties / Responsabilidades:
- Monitor and enforce compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT requirements, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and conduct training programs for drivers and other staff members to promote safe driving practices, proper equipment handling, and accident prevention.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed records of accidents and incidents, reporting findings to upper management, and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
- Review driver logs to ensure compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
- Monitor driving behavior (speeding, hard braking, etc.) and provide feedback and corrective action as needed.
- Conduct safety training for truck operators.
- Perform regular safety audits and inspections on company vehicles, equipment, and facilities to ensure safety standards are met.
- Work with the maintenance team to ensure that vehicles are regularly serviced and inspected to meet safety standards.
- Create and maintain the company’s safety programs and procedures, ensuring they are tailored to the specific needs of the trucking operation.
- Responsible for helping create internal and external compliance reporting, execute the on-going education program.
- Responsible for documenting all tasks associated with:
- Driver Qualifications – Medical Cards/Physicals, CDL, Annual Driving Records
- Driver Training – DOT regulations, Hazmat training (all areas required for our industry)
- Driver Records – Processing employment applications, DOT-required documents, company policies, CSA, MVR, criminal background, PEV
- Conduct daily reviews of drivers to ensure compliance and productivity through a fleet management and tracking software system.
- Administer random drug screens and expiration list processes including driver’s license and medical card renewal.
- Apply for permits and certifications (oversize, IFTA, Hazmat, NMFTA) for the company.
- Register titles and tags for company owned and leased equipment (County Fleet and IRP).
- Coordinate and request Certificate of Insurances with our insurance carrier.
- Maintain roadside inspections and citations including overweight, traffic violations, etc.
- Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) daily and communicate with driver management to correct and validate the resolution.
- Manage the Safety Management System (SMS) related to safety, compliance, and training, ensuring they are up-to-date and readily available for audits.
- Track monthly safety training topics and meetings for warehouse and driver employees.
- Coordinate the distribution of truck permit books for current and new assets.
- Ensures that all training materials are up to date, that necessary supplies are available and that inventories are secured and kept up to date.

- Stopping any process that may place CHEMAS Trucking in danger.

8.1 Education / Educación: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
8.2 Language / Idioma: English/Spanish preferred
8.3 Training / Formación:
- Familiarity with DOT/FMCSA/OSHAS rules and regulations with Inter-state and Intra-state commerce.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certified.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- DOT Compliance Training.
8.4 Experience / Experiencia:
- 2-3 years of experience in the safety department with OSHA knowledge.
