The Early Childhood Education Specialist leads the early childhood education lab activities as the children's classroom teacher. Ensures all aspects of classroom teaching align with Early Childhood Education Program coursework and philosophy. Provides information, feedback, and support to practicum students, contributes to parent education program, and collaborates with staff and faculty. This role works 10 months of a 12 month year. Classroom/LabMaintains safe, clean and orderly facility and educational resources utilizing a variety of established systems and processesSupervises and facilitates student use and care of materials to ensure appropriate use and maintenancePlans, implements and supervises constructivist classroom including developmentally appropriate guidance, environment and activitiesEvaluates and documents children's developmental goals and progress and develops appropriate curriculum based on these observationsGreets and interacts with parents in a warm and respectful manner on a daily basisProvides parents with information about their children through daily feedback and regular parent conferences in a manner consistent with Early Childhood Education Program coursework and philosophyParticipates in the daily operation of the food/nutrition programCollaborates with other staff to organize and offer parent education and communication programParticipates in enrollment, tracking, and record keeping related to children. families, and studentsInstructional SupportObserves and coordinates practicum students, using instructor's guidelinesProvides input for instructor evaluation of practicum studentsProvides ongoing and immediate feedback and information to practicum students during their work with children based on principles of adult learningSupervises practicum students in absence of instructorMeets and communicates with instructors to review and coordinate lab activities and environment to meet adult and child needs; assists with and attends lab seminars when requestedCoordinates and confers daily with others to ensure that children's programs meet children's developmental and Early Childhood Education program instructional needsCollaborates with others to address questions, concerns and problems from students, parents and employees related to program or lab operationsProgram ResponsibilitiesModels care and education of young children for college students in a manner consistent with Early Childhood Education Program coursework and philosophyCollaborates with others regarding child and family issues as well as needed materials and suppliesFollows all guidelines established for licensed child care centers in the State of Oregon and participates as directed and initiates needed activities to maintain licensing and certification standardsParticipates in staff meetings, and staff development opportunities.Maintains and tracks all required individual state licensing certifications and meets all related training requirementsOther FunctionsMay participate in planning and offering non-credit trainingMay be assigned responsibilities related to the Parent Resource Center including outreach, coaching, and navigation support to student parents in order to keep them engaged in Chemeketa coursework and programs.May oversee activities of part time hourly staff Performs all other job related duties as assigned Institutional ExpectationsEmbraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgroundsParticipates in recruitment and retention of students at an individual and institutional level in promotion of student successEmbraces, understands and uses appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functionsProvides high quality, effective service to internal and external customers through continuous improvement and adoption of lean office practices

SCHEDULE & MODALITYThis position is not eligible for remote/hybrid work.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTThis is a 100%, 10-month classified assignment of the B3 band and gradePlease note: The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study. No employee will lose base pay because of this study, however, classification titles and pay grades may change. The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Spring of 2025.This position has a 6-month probationary periodAll positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekendsThis position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locationsIf requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hireEmployees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks.
