SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER
JOB SUMMARY:
The Supplier Quality Engineer ensures CED’s vendors meet strict quality and production standards by overseeing suppliers, reviewing specifications and quality requirements, and addressing supplier-related defects. This role involves identifying and developing new suppliers through Quality Management System (QMS) evaluations, supplier visits and audits, and adherence to First Article Inspection (FAI) and Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) inspections. Additionally, the Supplier Quality Engineer ensures vendors can support all production, development, and testing requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct supplier quality audits to ensure vendors, production systems, special processes, products, and services comply with purchase order requirements and CED specifications.
2. Act as a liaison between suppliers, CED procurement, product engineers, and quality teams to resolve quality issues while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
3. Communicate with suppliers to address concerns and promote continuous improvement.
4. Interpret and apply manufacturing audit standards, including AS 9100D, ISO 9001, customer requirements, and other industry regulations.
5. Maintain and administer the supplier database, including performance evaluations and quality audits, ensuring key performance indicators (KPIs) are established and reviewed monthly.
6. Develop and track corrective actions with suppliers to reduce non-conformities.
7. Learn and assess special processes used in Chemring Energetic Devices products and evaluate compliance during supplier audits.
8. Perform additional duties, projects, and initiatives as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS):
1. A minimum of 5 years in Quality, Supplier Quality, or Engineering
2. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or manufacturing
3. Proven experience within the Aerospace Industry and familiarity with AS9100 QMS (desirable)
4. Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, with a solid understanding of GD&T standards and measuring equipment
5. Proven experience deploying tools such as FMEA, 8D, PDCA, or 5 Whys
6. Knowledge of quality systems and best business practices
7. Experience with metrology, dimensional inspection and CMM operation a plus
8. U.S. Permanent Resident (ITAR restrictions)
9. Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended), as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices.
