Geologist/Environmental Scientist

Functions
· Oversees and coordinates the activities of other scientists and project support personnel.
· Responsible for oversight of field investigations, remedial actions, and report preparation.
· Provides technical input on complex environmental compliance and hazardous materials issues.
· Create technical documents and plans, routine reports and correspondence.
· Coordinates meetings and takes notes.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Environmental Science Discipline
· Must have extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and sampling requirements.
· Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in environmental compliance, environmental management, and personnel supervision.
· ADEC Qualified Environmental Professional per 18 AAC 75.333
· HAZWOPER 40 hr.; 8 hr. Refreshers, Supervisory a plus
· Hazardous Materials Transportation, (DOT/IATA) 49 CFR 172.700-704 and Section 1.5 IATA Compliance
· RCRA Hazardous Materials/Waste Marking, Transportation, Disposal a plus
· Familiar with 18 AAC 75 (ADEC Oil and Hazardous Substances and Pollution Control Regulations), 18 AAC 78 (ADEC UST Regulations) and the ADEC Field Sampling Guidance Manual.
· Alaska based experience in soil classification, well installation, and groundwater sampling.
· Valid AK driver's license, safe driving record.
· Federal Government contract experience a plus.
Duties
· Develops sampling campaigns for collection of various media (soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment) with complex analytical suites, collects samples, and compiles, interprets and reports the analytical results.
· Obtains environmental permits, licenses, and other project requirements.
· Authors environmental technical proposal sections to ensure RFP conformance.
· Provides written scientific and technical guidance and written project documentation.
· Assist in project estimates and project management.
· Assist in properly scheduling the work of the crews, equipment and subcontractors.
· Authors and reviews work plans, reports and submittals
· Leads the field team for upcoming projects, making certain that the proper means and methods are followed, and the project is similar in kind as per bidding documents. (Data collection, site investigation, and evaluation of data)
· Authors and implements project Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAP) and/or Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPP).
· Foresight to predict problems before they develop.
· Anchorage based office/ position requires AK travel.
· Occasional overtime for field or bidding support.
Organizational Responsibilities
· Field Team Lead of onsite project team.
· Complies with and helps to enforce standard policies and procedures.
· Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change.
· Remains on the forefront of emerging industry practices.

- Potentially working at contaminated sites
- May require travel in aircraft, motor vehicles, ATVs and/or watercraft
- Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related components.
- Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds such as totes, coolers, equipment, and other materials
