About the Role: Research Engineer
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Senior Process & Equipment Engineer is responsible for designing, documenting, implementing, and sustaining manufacturing processes and equipment to support one of XOS’s key product lines: poly-capillary x-ray optics. This individual will work closely with Senior Research Scientists who developed the poly-capillary production process and equipment, ensuring resiliency, redundancy, and sustainability. The long-term goal is to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in this area.
Location: East Greenbush, NY (Onsite)
In This Role, a Typical Day Will Look Like:
- Learning and documenting the poly-capillary production process.
- Taking ownership of planned new production equipment installation and qualification.
- Developing and executing a plan to qualify all poly-capillary optic production on new equipment.
- Driving continuous improvement in production processes to improve quality, increase productivity, and reduce risk.
- Establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implementing Visual Management for monitoring Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity (SQDIP).
- Developing and implementing preventative maintenance plans for production equipment, including data backup and resiliency strategies.
- Utilizing Veralto VES tools to propose workflow process improvements.
Essential Requirements:
- 7 years of technical experience.
- BS in a STEM field (MS preferred).
- Experience with mechanical design and 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
- Experience with Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Countermeasure (RCCM) Analysis.
- Familiarity with motion control systems (setup, calibration, troubleshooting).
- Scripting knowledge for automated data logging and processing (Python preferred).
- Experience with temperature control (monitoring and tuning control parameters).
- Familiarity with metrology instrumentation for precision measurement and data analysis.
- Experience with fixture design for experimental setup and testing.
- Working knowledge of components such as machined parts, PCBs, electronic components, sheet metal, plastics, servos, and stepper motors.
- Practical experience in electrical engineering, programming, and data analysis.
Bonus if you have:
- Master of Science Degree in a related field.
Travel Requirements: Up to 10% overnight travel required.

An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.
Salary : $90,000 - $115,000
