What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Hand position at Chena Hot Springs Resort?
Kennel Hand:
Chena Hot Springs, Fairbanks, Alaska
We are a medium-sized resort located sixty miles North-East of Fairbanks, Alaska, located in the Chena River State Recreation Area. Notable for our Hot Springs, we also offer a variety of outdoor activities, including Hiking, Camping, ATV/Snowmachine Tours, Dog Sled Rides, and Northern Lights Viewing during the Aurora Season. We also offer a restaurant and café, hotel, and gift shops.
Do you like animals and aren't afraid to get your hands (and everything else) dirty? We are looking for a Handler to join our Dogyard Crew. This is an extremely physically demanding position and heavy lifting and constant movement is expected daily.
The Handler will be expected to join their team and perform the following tasks daily:
- Feed 80 dogs twice a day
- Water 80 dogs
- Feed goats, chickens, and horses
- Shovel waste from the Kennel
- Light cleaning and stocking of the Visitor's Center
- Projects - painting, construction of dog houses, Kennel improvements
- Operate Dog Mushing rides (NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!)
- Run the Kennel Tour, a 45 minute informational tour.
- Communicate with each individual guest for a personalized experience.
The Handler may be expected to do the following on an infrequent basis:
- Issue medication for various animals
- As with all jobs offered at Chena Hot Springs Resort, single- or double-occupancy housing with communal bathroom is provided, as is two hot meals a day and breakfast cereals.
