What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney, Social Services position at Chenango County?
ATTORNEY, SOCIAL SERVICES - The Chenango County Department of Social Services has an immediate opening for a Staff Attorney. This position covers such areas as child abuse and neglect, adult protective and guardianships, estates and trust administration, contracts, welfare fraud, foster care, child support and paternity, PINS and JD court involvement. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Attorney in accordance with departmental policies and legal practices, with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in applying legal knowledge to specific problems and taking appropriate legal action. Acts as legal consultant to all divisions of the Department of Social Services. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of an employee in this class. Some travel is required to fulfill the duties of this position. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to the New York State Bar and license to practice as an attorney in the State of New York, and residency in Chenango County or one of its adjoining counties at time of appointment is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment, a candidate/incumbent must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License, a reliable vehicle, and a driving record acceptable to the County’s insurance carrier.

The position has a 35 hour work week and includes a full benefits and leave time package.
For 2025 salary is commensurate with experience $100,000-$106,000.
