What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Clerk position at Chenango County?
BENEFITS CLERK - This is a position in the Chenango County Personnel (Human Resources) Department responsible for the performance of specialized clerical functions related to employee and retiree benefits. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Benefits Administrator with preparing for and conducting new employee orientations and assisting with a wide variety of employee benefit programs including health insurance, leave time benefits, other benefit programs. Duties also include assisting with the clerical functions of the Chenango County Health Plan. Data entry and other clerical duties will be performed, in addition to contact with employees, retirees, dependents, and vendors. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Personnel Officer and the Deputy Personnel Officer. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. Some travel is required to fulfill the duties of the position. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and EITHER:
(A) Possession of an Associate’s Degree AND one (1) year of full-time (or its part-time equivalent) paid experience with employee benefits, human resources, conducting new hire orientations, or office clerical experience which included responsibility for data entry; OR
(B) Three (3) years of full-time (or its part-time equivalent) paid experience with employee benefits, human resources, conducting new hire orientations, or office clerical experience which included responsibility for data entry; OR
(C) Any combination of training and experience equal to or greater than that specified in (A) and (B) above.
Note: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. The position has a 35 hour work week and starts at $38,000-$40,000 in 2025 and includes a full benefits and leave time package.
