What are the responsibilities and job description for the Support Investigator position at Chenango County?
SUPPORT INVESTIGATOR - Chenango County's department of Social Services has an opening for a Support Investigator. This is a position in the Chenango County Department of Social Services’ Child Support Enforcement Unit. The position involves responsibility for locating absent parents and putative fathers, establishing paternity, and establishing, enforcing and monitoring court ordered and voluntary support obligations. An employee in this class interviews clients and applicants and conducts investigations to determine the location and financial status of individuals legally responsible for the support of dependent children. Most investigative work is performed in the office via personal interviews, correspondence, telephone contacts and the use of computerized records, but some travel and field investigation work is required. Work involves court appearances and direct contact with judges, attorneys, employers, and child support units and personnel from other jurisdictions. At least one incumbent in this title will be required to obtain and maintain a Notary Public License. This position differs from that of a Social Services Fraud Investigator in that there is no responsibility for fraud investigation. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level Support Investigator with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the duties of the position. Supervision of others is not a responsibility of an employee in this class. Does related work as required.
