Cheney Fire Department is currently accepting job applications for the position of Part Paid Firefighter. Cheney Part Paid Firefighters are made of selfless individuals who seek to better their community and themselves by gaining additional experience and working within a highly dynamic system
We currently have 18 part-paid and 10 full-time firefighters that respond to over 1,900 calls each year. 73% of those calls are for medical service. Our program is a bit unique and rebuilt to accommodate both those part-paid members and the full-time members. We have three teams of six (part-paid) volunteers that are dedicated to a fixed "shift." Six that work solely on "A-Shift," six that work solely on "B-Shift," and six that work solely on “C-Shift." With that, the part-paid work one 12-hour shift every nine days alongside two full-time members. The schedule is roughly 3 days a month that a volunteer works these 12-hour shifts. The shifts always fall on the weeknights from approx. 7PM-7AM and then all day (24-hour shift) on weekends if your shift falls on a weekend (roughly 1 shift per month). We generally ask those that are interested in the program to stop by the station so we can better explain it since this may sound confusing.
Our program, like many volunteer programs, almost always has a slot or two that needs filling. If selected, we will provide you with high quality Fire and EMS training to meet the ever evolving challenges of our community.
