GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Supplemental Instructor position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by bridging school-based learning with real-world experiences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee hired for this assignment may perform all or some of the responsibilities defined below:
- Develop and implement engaging learning experience for K-8 students
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and the parenting community to create meaningful learning opportunities
- Facilitate hands-on activities that connect classroom learning to real-world applications
- Provide instructional support in various subject areas, including STEM, humanities, art, movement, environmental studies, and social-emotional learning
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
- Assess student progress and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Communicate regularly with school staff, parents, and community partners
- Performs related duties as assigned. Related duties may not specifically be listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility
- Must have access to a reliable form of transportation

Knowledge of: instructional strategies for diverse learning styles; equity, inclusion and culturally responsive teaching; district programs and procedures; basic computer skills including, but not limited to; e-mail, internet, etc.

MENTAL DEMANDS

- May experience shifts in work schedule and/or work site according to district needs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sit, walk, and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Amount of sitting, standing and walking may vary depending on projects/tasks. Generally, the job requires 50% standing, 30% walking, and 20% sitting
- May be exposed to visual display terminal for prolonged periods
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, sit, stand, walk, bend at neck and back, twist body, use hands to push/pull and lift/carry, squat, kneel, stoop, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and related work experience
- Background in teaching, community engagement, cultural education, or experiential learning
- Experience working with K-8 students in a formal or informal educational setting
- Must have access to reliable transportation
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Non-represented, semester-based, temporary position
- Position is per semester (and based on program need), including approximately:
- 4 hours of classroom work each week, three weeks per month (on Tuesday or Thursday)
- 1 hour set-up per week
- 1 hour staff meeting per month
- 2 Open House events per semester @ 2 hours per event
- 2 Special events per semester @ 2 hours per event
CLEARANCES
WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Must complete school safety training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date and annually thereafter
- Must acquire and maintain CPR/First Aid card within sixty (60) calendar days from hire date and as scheduled thereafter
- Attend designated trainings as specified by supervisor and/or department director in order to maintain knowledge/skills
- Submit current/renewed licenses to Human Resources upon attaining
