Position Summary
The Affordable Housing Specialist is responsible for screening and certifying applicants for low-income housing while ensuring full compliance with program criteria and federal regulations. This role requires close collaboration with government agencies, community advocates, and financial teams to maintain accurate records and reporting for rental assistance programs.
Key Responsibilities
Tenant Support & Compliance
- Assist prospective tenants through the application and move-in processes to achieve maximum occupancy.
- Maintain and manage waiting lists in accordance with federal guidelines.
- Conduct initial certifications, annual recertifications, and interim recertifications for tenants.
- Submit all necessary documents and payments to Rural Development (RD) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for tenant assistance.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local housing regulations.
- Submit required reports and audits related to affordable housing programs.
- Work closely with the financial department to maintain accurate tenant records and subsidy documentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
✔ Knowledge of federal, state, and local housing regulations, including rental assistance programs for low-income households.
✔ Understanding of landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities.
✔ Experience with HUD and USDA Rural Development project-based assistance.
✔ Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately verify income documentation.
✔ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with applicants, tenants, and government agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with housing management software such as OneSite, EIV, or MINC
· Familiarity with REAC, MOR or NSpire inspections
