What are the responsibilities and job description for the HSE Plant Supervisor position at CHEP?
Position Purpose
- Responsible for leading all health, safety, and environmental initiatives of the plant, performs safety audits, implements GAP safety and environmental SOP’s driving compliance with all corporate policies, goals and objectives. To lead and be the conscience of all Health Safety and Environmental matters within the plant ensuring all functional roles meet their respective legal and local obligations; overseeing all HSE regulatory compliance aspects.

Major/Key Accountabilities
- Effective implementation of CHEP OHS&E Systems – ensuring the GAP process is reviewed on a regular basis and leading closure of resultant corrective actions.
- Lead and monitor continuous improvement via systemic change based on data and root cause analysis of incidents, near misses and environmental occurrences
- Oversees the day-to-day HSE duties of direct report(s) and ensuring performance expectations are met.
- Partners with HR to provide coaching and guidance for direct report (s) regarding performance concerns, goal setting, development, etc.
- Formulate practical ways to ensure engagement of all stake-holders on a plant and individual basis
- Implement and monitor OLIE and MOT as the-CHEP Behavior Observation System.
- Coordinating the Plant OHS&E Action Plan to achieve target compliance.
- Leading/facilitating Root cause investigation on all Incidents to actively reduce the plant TIFR.
- Leading/facilitating Root cause investigation on all potentially life changing Near Misses and to assist with communication to the network.
- Promote healthy Zero Harm discussions within the plant – Zero Harm meetings, PLT meetings.
- Update the plant KPI’s onto iCare on a monthly basis
- Monitor and review the iCare system to ensure all plant data is input correctly and within a timely manner.
- Monitor supervisory techniques on Health Safety and environment issues via MOT
- Monitor and ensuring consistent, timely responses to all issues relating to OHS&E.
- Communicating & documenting changes to procedures relating to OHS&E, or Management Systems.
- Advise plant leadership team of any changes to Health and Safety standards
- Review and identify safety training needs on site.
- Actively look to improve OHSE standards within the plant and at network level by evaluation of practicalities, continuous improvement techniques and best practice sharing
- Ensure legal obligations are met, review and update new legislation within the plant structure.

Qualification
Education:
- NEBOSH General Certificate; Tech degree, Safety level 1, Environmental level B, NEBOSH Diploma, Environmental qualification
Training:
- Auditing, SO 9001, ISO 14000 (1), ISOSH 18001
Experience
- 3 years’ experience in previous Health, Safety, and Environmental role
- Previous supervisory experience
- Previous experience Leading and implementing HSE programs
Skills and Knowledge
- Proven working experience of working within a high volume / target driven manufacturing environment
- Strong Computer skills: MS Packages including MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Communication; written and verbal
- Problem Solving
- Ability to manage processes and motivate a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking
- Must be able to effectively investigate incidents and determine the underlying cause.
- Well versed in State and Federal Environmental and Safety regulations

Compensation statement:
The salary range for this position is $58,000 to $80,000 per year. Salary ranges provided take into account a wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications, geographic differentials and other business and organizational needs. Therefore, actual amounts offered may be higher or lower than the range provided.
