QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher and an add-on certification for Literacy Coach
- or -
2. Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher and actively participate* in the SCDE Literacy Leader Institute or are actively pursuing the literacy coach endorsement by enrollment in an SCDE-approved program
- or -
3. Currently hold a Master’s Degree or higher in reading or a closely related field** and be pursuing the required qualifications in coaching
Job Description – School-Based Reading Coach Cherokee County School District
1. Model effective instructional strategies for teachers.
2. Facilitate study groups.
3. Train teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction.
4. Coach and mentor colleagues.
5. Provide daily support to classroom teachers.
6. Work with teachers to ensure that research-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity.
7. Increase the instructional capacity of teachers to meet the needs of all students.
8. Help lead and support reading leadership teams at individual schools.
9. Continue to expand personal knowledge base in best practices in reading instruction, intervention, and instructional reading strategies.
10. Work with all teachers, including content area and elective, in the assigned school, prioritizing time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student achievement, namely coaching and mentoring in classrooms.
11. Work frequently with students in whole and small group instruction in the context of modeling and coaching in other teachers’ classrooms.
