Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Certification/Licensure: (1) Possess a Valid Georgia Driver’s License; (2) Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) preferred or must be able to satisfy the Basic Emergency Manager Certification requirements pursuant to O.C.G.A. 38-3-27 within 24 months of employment. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in public safety, emergency management, risk management, radio communications or other related field or combination of related fields.
GOAL
Supports and facilitates the educational process within the Cherokee County School District to provide a safe and secure environment for teaching and learning through practical review and application of National Incident Management System (NIMS) practices of preventing, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating the effects of incidents that may result in the loss of life or property.

Representative Duties & Responsibilities
- Supports School Board Policy and Major System Priorities by reviewing best safety and security practices related to the K-12 education environment.
- Provides support, resources, materials, and training opportunities to school-based and district-wide staff regarding issues, problems or concerns related to school safety protocols and procedures.
- Oversee training for employees in applicable positions to ensure compliance with National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) requirements.
- Oversee CPR/First Aid/AED certification and training for employees in applicable positions that may require emergency response.
- Assists in the development and management of school safety grant opportunities.
- Reviews and evaluates school safety plans annually to ensure they meet or exceed standards established within Georgia law.
- Reviews and evaluates the District’s Crisis Command Center plan to ensure accountability and continuity of operations during a crisis, emergency or other district-wide occurrence.
- Reviews and evaluates the District’s Reunification Team plan to ensure accountability and continuity of operations during a crisis, emergency or other district-wide occurrence.
- Consults with school-based staff to ensure training, emergency drills, fire drills and similar exercises are completed and documented.
- Evaluates and assists in safety audits/inspections of district-wide facilities to prevent, or mitigate potential risks.
- Collaborates with district and other public safety entities to identify varying types of resources (manpower, equipment, vehicles) that may be utilized during a crisis or emergency.
- Assists local and state agencies with the development and dissemination of critical infrastructure information necessary for effective response by public safety agencies to a school-based or district-wide occurrence.
- Works closely with Cherokee EMA in the development and facilitation of safety exercises involving school-based emergency teams, district reunification team, school police department and other public safety agencies to ensure compliance with NIMS and Incident Command Systems (ICS).
- Represents the School District at the Cherokee County Emergency Operations Center during serious or critical event requires activation and operation of the Center.
- Attends local, state, and national seminars and conferences relative to school safety, emergency response and crisis management.
- Attends various training programs and courses sponsored or approved by the state director of emergency management to maintain CEM certification on an annual basis.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
