POSITION SUMMARY         

This is an entry-level position. Employee will gain skills through structured training and guided on-the-job training. This position will involve primarily time in the field at project sites with some office time. The employee will be responsible for implementing fieldwork for site assessments, implementing air monitoring programs, providing emergency response assistance to our clients, soil boring and monitoring well installation oversight, collection of soil and groundwater samples, field screening of soils using an organic vapor analyzer, documenting GPS points of sample locations using a GPS Trimble unit, using air monitoring equipment, and using other specialized field equipment, as needed. Office work will include coordinating fieldwork and scheduling subcontractors, review of data from the laboratory, and preparation of tables using Excel and writing reports. The employee must have excellent attention to detail, good communication, and writing skills. Employee will receive close supervision on new aspects of assignments. Progression will require an employee to demonstrate skills and knowledge of the position they currently hold. The employee remains at each position for at least 24 months.

  • Follow the dictates and recommendations of the Safety Department.
  • Use prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer or scientist;
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations;
  • Adjust and correlate data;
  • Recognize discrepancies in technical data;
  • Follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes;
  • Assist with performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments;
  • Assist with writing Source Removal Plans, Site Assessment Reports, Remedial Action Plans, Monitoring Only Plan Reports, Post Active Remedial Monitoring Reports, Tank Closure Assessment Reports, and other technical documents as required;
  • Prepare supporting data tables in Excel;
  • Prepare supporting figures in CAD/GIS;
  • Assist with preparing aboveground and underground storage tank drawings and specifications;
  • Assist with procuring environmental and construction permits;
  • Provide technical assistance to the Construction Division to assist with engineering and/or environmental issues that may impact project schedules and budgets;
  • Assist with obtaining vendor/subcontractor quotes;
  • Provide a variety of sampling including soil, groundwater, and surface water in accordance with the FDEP SOPs;
  • Operate field equipment such as GPS Trimble unit, pumps, meters, etc. as needed for sample collection;
  • Oversee subcontractors in the field including drillers, surveyors, waste removal, etc.;
  • Work as part of a team or individually;
  • Maintain field equipment including coordinating required calibrations and repairs;
  • Coordinate with Project Engineer or Manager on maintaining adequate field supplies;
  • Be familiar with CEI Corporate HASP or project-specific HASP, as required.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies:

  • Knowledge and ability to carry out a sequence of related engineering tasks;
  • Exercise limited judgment on details of work;
  • Make preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives;
  • Possess excellent writing skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail.


SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:  Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or closely-related discipline from an ABET-accredited curriculum, or equivalent, plus relevant continuing education

 

Experience:  0-2 Years' Experience

 

Computer Skills: 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS preferred


Certificates & Licenses: 

  • Driver’s license

 

Other Requirements (training will be provided if needed):

  • First Aid/CPR Training
  • 40Hour OSHA HAZWOPER
  • OSHA 10 Hour in Construction Industry Course


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Hearing and vision within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing, inspecting, or reviewing documents.
  • Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 50% of the time and move about an office and/or work site the other half of the time.
  • Occasional heavy lifting (30 lb / 13.6 kg) can be expected, though exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force is more common. Need good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment (e.g., computers, mobile devices, copiers).
  • Frequent walking and climbing (stairs, ladders, terrain)
  • Frequent lifting (up to and including 50 pounds)
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and standing
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions

Other Physical Requirements: Must wear required PPE including steel-toed boots in the field, may be necessary to wear protective eyewear, may be necessary to wear hearing protection, and ability to travel by car.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed an estimated 25% in the office, and 75% in outdoor settings, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, potentially during day and night shifts. Work may be performed in emergency and stressful situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate in field situations.
