Job Summary:
Instructs program participants with classroom and on-the-job training experience in various carpentry construction aspects and performing other related work as needed.
Job Duties:
Provides hands on construction instruction in the field on real job sites to adults, ages 18 and older participating in program through demonstrations, modeling skills and supervision using a variety of techniques and approaches including small group, individual training, etc. The instruction will include, but not limited to, foundation layout, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, roofing, insulation installation, sheetrock installation and finishing, painting, floor covering installation, sidewalks, foundation construction. Supervises and assigns participants to perform particular tasks on a work project and observe students to determine qualifications, limitations, abilities, interests, and other individual characteristics. Provides classroom instruction in accordance with NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research). Observes and evaluates participants work both on real job sites and classroom instruction to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement. Defines weekly work assignments and priorities for program participants and oversees the monitoring of students' time on the construction site as well as in the classroom. Interacts with students, co-workers and supervisors in a positive, cooperative and professional manner, so as to demonstrate to students a model of expected behavior on the job. Enforces safety procedures, rules and policies and emulates these practices for participants. Assists with the inventory of training supplies and tools ensuring these items are appropriately checked in and out for use and remain in working order. Assesses construction projects to determine supplies and materials needed and provides materials and/or cost estimate as required. Operates a vehicle in the course of carrying out assigned duties, such as transporting participants and materials. Completes reports as needed to provide client and programmatic information including but not limited to Time & Attendance and Student Progress. Assists with providing outreach and recruitment of participants for the Building Trades Program. Instructs participants in proper use and care of tools and equipment associated with carpentry to prepare students for on-the-job experience. Attends training as needed. Helps to maintain participant files as needed. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and less than one year of specialized training or education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
An additional four (4) years experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Driver's License is necessary, must transport students and material to and from work sites. Must be NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) certified or be able to obtain certification within eight months from date of hire.

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
