What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Assistant Ambulatory Care Nurse position at Cherokee Nation?
Works under the guidance of the Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager assisting with leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of ambulatory nursing services to maintain continuity of comprehensive care. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager, QM nurse, and other appropriate disciplines to assist with the education of staff and patients.
Job Duties:
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Practices only within the boundaries of their competence. Based on their documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Every licensed nurse is responsible for understanding his/her scope of practice and other requirements outlined by the Board of Nursing, hospital policy, or the law. Manages assigned areas in the Ambulatory Care Clinic by providing adequate clinical staffing (approves all training requests, leave requests, and overtime), clinical organizational functions (medical supplies, equipment, and maintenance), clinical safety, and departmental communication (planned unit meetings and information disseminated to their staff). Ensures that all Cherokee Nation Health Services policies and procedures, national nursing standards, applicable accreditation standards, federal and state guidelines, and appropriate protocols are followed. The scope of services provided is consistent with Cherokee Nation Policies and quality standards. Initiates, develops, monitors, and revises policy, guidelines, and protocols to ensure quality, effectiveness, and appropriateness of patient care consistent with Cherokee Nation Health services goals, current standards/issues, and future needs of the Native American population. Ensures that an interdisciplinary approach to patient care is maintained within the department. Provides skilled and comprehensive care to the patient, as necessary, to cover staffing shortages. Closely observes patient's condition that may require emergency treatment. Exercises sound judgment in interpreting observations to the physician and initiating emergency measures. Participates in interviewing and selecting staff. Maintains competency in current nursing skills, knowledge, practices and procedures, leadership and management knowledge and abilities. Serves on various clinic/nursing committees. Coordinates with other departments to provide a clean, safe work environment. Maintains communication that promotes collegiality among patient care teams. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager, Quality Management Nurse, and other disciplines as appropriate to provide a clean, safe work environment. Demonstrates positive role model and leadership qualities. Adheres to and promotes professional, ethical, and legal standards of nursing. Provides Human Resources with a copy of all licensures, certifications, renewal of licensures, and certifications upon receipt thereof. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages twenty-one (21) to forty (40) employees in the assigned area. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Associate’s degree from a 2-year college or technical school; no substitutions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
An additional three (3) years of experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should know Database software; Development software; Internet software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a license as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Oklahoma Board of Education (OBN) or possess a multistate RN license accepted by the OBN, no substitutions. Must maintain license throughout employment. Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain throughout employment. Can be obtained during orientation. Must be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and maintain throughout employment. If not certified, ACLS must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire. The applicant/employee must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations and maintains strict confidentiality of patient information.
