What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor, Medical Records position at Cherokee Nation?
Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to the Medical Records Staff. Oversees the functions and activities of the staff and performs duties of staff as needed. Maintains confidentiality of records within the department.
Job Duties:Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services following the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to assigned staff. Reviews processes and makes recommendations for improvements. Manages the workflow among employees to ensure maximum productivity and quality standards. Prioritizes work to ensure completion of release of information (ROI) and scanning functions. Creates and manages procedures for collecting and scanning medical records into the electronic health record accurately and timely. Works with ROI staff to properly review all patient and legal requests (court orders, subpoenas, discovery requests) performed before disclosure and ensures only the minimal amount of public health information (PHI) necessary to fulfill the request is disclosed. Monitors and educates ROI staff on the appropriate completion of ROI forms. Continually provides education and directive on the importance of HIPAA, Cherokee Nation policies, and proper records release.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises five (5) to twenty (20) full-time employees in the assigned area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Associate’s degree from a 2-year college or technical school, or two (2) years (60 credit hours) coursework from a 4-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least two (2) years of experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should know Database software and Spreadsheet software.

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
