Job Summary:
Oversees the daily operations of the land development program, assuring compliance, composing and submitting reports, monitoring the program and supervising assigned personnel.
Job Duties:
Plans, organizes, and manages Tribal Lands. Investigates and prepares reports of trespass on Tribal and Individual lands. Prepares/reviews reports relating to non-compliance with lease terms. Plans and executes activities and goals for the assigned area to insure proper land use. Manages, protects, conserves, and utilizes Tribal lands to their full potential. Obtains basic data for inventory records of accomplishments for use in the development of periodic reports. Using aerial photographs, maps, Global Positioning System, and other related sources, determines land acreage, land features, cost estimates of conservation practices, prepares overlays and develops reports. Interprets and develops legal descriptions. Coordinates development of Natural Resources Department Integrated Resources Management Plan on Cherokee Tribal lands. Determines land available for various United States Department of Agriculture programs. Coordinates Nocious week control program. Monitors expenses on Tribal land activities. Prepares reports and proposals as required.
Conducts quality control reviews and visits as needed. Ensures all activities are in compliance with applicable Federal and Tribal guidelines. ManagesTrust programs as required. Oversees budgets and monitors expenditures as required. Approves payments as required. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises a total of 21-30 employees in Natural Resources. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from 4-year College or university in Environmental, Biological or Physical Science, Engineering or other related field; or six years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least two years’ experience in a related field.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to operate standard office equipment and computers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
