POSITION SUMMARY

The essential function of the Probation Testing Technician is to administer observed drug and alcohol tests for individuals under the supervision of the department. This is customer service position with some fiduciary responsibilities that will require attention to detail, confidence, coordination, courtesy, cooperation, dedication, and communication. This position works directly for the Probation Director.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages drug testing program and maintains daily spreadsheet of program results; generates reports regarding testing to Probation Officers and supervisors.
  • Observes and administers drug tests on male individuals and performs other alcohol tests; records test results and adds financial obligations into the offender management system; distributes results to Probation Officers;
  • Responsible for evidence; collects, records and packages positive tests for shipping to outside lab for confirmation and schedules shipping pick-ups; retrieves completed lab results and records information into the offender management system, and distributes results to Probation Officers; maintains drug testing evidence log;
  • Assists Account Technician in adding cases to the offender management system in a timely and accurate manner. Ensures paperwork in intake file is complete and accurate. Assigns cases to officers in such a manner that the caseloads remain within departmental guidelines. Scans sentences and any other related orders into the offender management system upon initial case set-up.
  • May occasionally perform administrative duties in the absence of the Account Technician. These duties may include; posts payments and balances financials; generates receipts for all payments; prepares and submits deposits; generates reports and notifies the Director in the event of an out of balance situation.
  • Answers phone calls, greets visitors, assists with filing, assists with mail pick-up and drop-off mail, maintains drug-testing inventory and submits supply orders. Maintains appearance and cleanliness of drug testing area.
  • On occasion may be asked to assist with court services. Protects confidentiality of probation information at all times

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Data are intangible and include numbers, words, symbols, ideas, concepts, and oral verbalizations. Examines, evaluates, and inputs data or information and possibly recommends action based on results.

PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITY: “People Responsibility” refers to individuals who have contact with or are influenced by the position. Maintains positive interaction with guests, customers, and co-workers.

ASSETS RESPONSIBILITY: “Assets Responsibility” refers to the responsibility for achieving economies or preventing loss within the organization. Requires some responsibility for achieving minor economies and/or preventing minor losses through the handling of or accounting for materials, equipment, or amounts of money.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS: “Mathematics” deals with quantities, magnitudes, and forms and their relationships and attributes by the use of numbers and symbols. Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percents.

COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: “Communications” involves the ability to read, write, and speak. Reads manuals; composes spreadsheets and emails; speaks to groups of coworkers and people outside the organization.

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: “Complexity of Work” addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures. Performs coordinating work involving guidelines and rules with constant problem solving; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results or frequent exposure to unusual pressure.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: “Impact of Decisions” refers to consequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals. Makes decisions with moderate impact - affects most units in organization, and affects citizens;

EQUIPMENT USAGE: “Equipment Usage” refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form, and other physical characteristics. Handles machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items, such as computers and drug/alcohol testing apparatus.

SAFETY OF OTHERS: “Safety of Others” refers to the responsibility for other people’s safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the public. Requires some responsibility for maintaining order and safety in the office.

Education and Experience

Requires High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, Must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

A valid State of Georgia Driver's License and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record. Maintains all necessary requirements set forth by the Misdemeanor Probation Oversight Unit (MPOU).
