POSITION SUMMARY : The Emergency Department Provider's chief responsibilities include treating patients with life-threatening illnesses, establishing effective patient care plans, and referring patients to the appropriate specialists. To excel in this highly stressful environment, the ideal candidate should have superb communication and interpersonal abilities, with excellent judgment skills. The Emergency Department Provider diagnoses, treats, and manages patients' conditions, develops and implements treatment plans for patients, and evaluates patients' response to treatment. This position requires a high level of professional collaboration in urgent situations.
QUALIFICATIONS : Education :
- Physician - Required : Medical Degree (MD, DO) , Emergency Medicine training, Family Practice Residency training
- Physician Assistant - Required : Graduate of physician assistants program which has been accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, or its successor
- Nurse Practitioner - Required : Graduation from an accredited graduate or postgraduate nurse practitioner program as a certified nurse practitioner
License / Registration / Certification :
Physician - Required : IA Physician's Medical License, DEA Certificate. BLS, ALTS, NRP and PALS certified. Board certified.Physician Assistant - Required : IA Physician's Assistant License, DEA Certificate. BLS, ALTS, NRP and PALS certified.Nurse Practitioner - Required : Current RN licensure in the State of Iowa. IA Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner's License, DEA Certificate. BLS, ALTS, NRP and PALS certified.Experience :

Assesses patients who enter the emergency room and diagnoses a variety of conditions, including injuries, illnesses, and oversees emergency recovery.Evaluates the medical history of patients.Requests the appropriate medical tests and based on them, follows a treatment plan.Orders or executes various tests, analyses and diagnostic images to provide information on a patient's condition.Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination and diagnoses conditions of patients.Develops effective patient care plans.Conducts follow-up visits to monitor the patient's conditionAdministers or prescribes treatments.Implements procedures for infection control and waste management, and assures compliance with EMTALA, OSHA, EPA, and CDC.Discusses any possible side effects to medication or immunization with patients.Refers patients to appropriate specialists.Coordinates with different departments to ensure patients receive the necessary treatment.Ensures that patients are stable before transferring them to the proper department or higher level of care for further evaluation.Promotes health by advising patients about diet, hygiene and methods for prevention of disease.Provides patient instruction and advice on prevention, self-care, follow-up care, and instructions for discharge and any relevant paperwork.Maintains patients' medical records.Attends and participates in department meetings, medical staff meetings and continuing education.
