HCC Maintenance Mechanic
REPORTS TO: Nursing Home Administrator
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Duties may involve pipe fitting, minor lock repair, equipment inspection and assembly, life safety inspections , drain maintenance, carpentry, repairing electrical or mechanical equipment , installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment, moving equipment and furniture, and repairing buildings walls, floors, or stairs. Back-up van driver to take residents to their scheduled medical appointments. Has dotted line reporting responsibility to Cherokee Regional Maintenance Manager.
ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE: 40 hours weekly, Full time

Education
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Required: Chauffeurs License
- Required: CPR Certification
- Preferred: Any applicable maintenance certifications
- Required: 2 years' experience in mechanical background
- Highly developed problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to flexible work schedules and frequent interruptions.
- Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines on daily work and special projects.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to learn and use various community programs.
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Skill in managing one's own time and/or the time of others.
- Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.

- Upon orientation, knowledge of all the Electro-mechanical systems of the hospital and its outbuildings.
- Knowledge of safety equipment to maintain systems and safety equipment used in health care facilities.
- Must have good computer skills
- Works from blueprints.
- Uses and maintains hand and power tools,
- Installs, inspects, and conducts preventive maintenance, routine maintenance and minor repairs mechanical and electrical equipment, communications systems, medical equipment, buildings, plumbing, sanitary, medical gasses, sprinkler system, and fire alarm systems.
- Completes preventive maintenance and conducts safety inspections.
- Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgements, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned mechanical equipment.
- Understands, observes, and complies with all safety precautions and procedures of the department and the hospital
- Maintains operating and repair knowledge of current and new equipment. Repairs are made correctly and completely
- Performs assigned duties during fire, internal and external disasters, codes and drills.
- Participates in department training groups to advance skills and knowledge of equipment and buildings.
- Ensures that good relationships and communications are maintained with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Responds to urgent requests and resolves or elevates in a timely manner.
- Completes minor carpentry, painting, plastering, and electromechanical repairs.
- Keeps shop and mechanical rooms clean and free of unnecessary items.
- Utilizes logs and maintains all documents required in accordance to SOP's or required AHJ's.
