Cherokee Westlawn Apartments is a privately owned apartment community for active adults 55 and over. There are two apartment buildings, four parking garages, and several common areas that require attention.
Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified individual to join our amazing team for the role of Groundskeeper. This role involves various tasks related to lawn care, garden maintenance, and landscape upkeep, contributing to the overall aesthetic and functionality of our property.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular lawn care activities, including mowing, trimming, and fertilizing.
- Maintain gardens by planting flowers, shrubs, and trees as needed.
- Conduct landscape maintenance tasks such as weeding, mulching, and edging.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently for various groundskeeping tasks.
- Shovel snow and spread salt on public passageways (some areas by hand, some areas with utility tractor).
- Maintain care of mowers and utility equipment.
- Monitor the condition of the grounds and report any issues or necessary repairs.
- Assist in seasonal clean-up efforts to prepare the grounds for different weather conditions.
- Remove trash from lawns and common areas on a daily basis.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure all areas are maintained to high standards.
Work Experience Required
- Previous experience in groundskeeping or landscape maintenance is required.
- Familiarity with lawn care techniques and garden management is beneficial.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools related to landscaping tasks.
- A strong work ethic with attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Enjoys being outdoors in various weather conditions.
Other Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
- Active auto insurance at State recommended liability.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Mechanical experience is a plus.
- Carpentry experience is a plus.
- Live within 15 minutes of property.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Walking and moving throughout the community common areas and facilities.
- Sitting and standing for minimal periods of time.
- Utilizing personal vehicle for business purposes as needed.
- Perform exterior property inspections.

Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 7:30 am start-time.
- 3-5 hours per day or 15-25 hours per week.
- Flex-time available when scheduled in advance.
- Possible on-call assistance.
The Groundskeeper will assist the Maintenance Supervisor in anticipating, identifying, and correcting any problems involving the property and implementing procedures to prevent such issues.
Our management style is “hands-on” with training, coaching, and evaluating. Performance reviews will be completed 30 days after hire, 90 days after hire, and every three months thereafter. We are team-oriented, results-driven, customer-focused, and we always strive to do the right thing.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
