Position Summary
The Staff Paramedic in ER is responsible for the formation and implementation of comprehensive critical medical care through the application of professional values, knowledge, and skills. He / She functions under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse of Cherry County Hospital and Clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
Evaluates emergency medical needs of each patient on a continuing basis, and assists in determining the emergency medical care to be given
Provides direct patient care by performing medical procedures following hospital policy and procedures to ensure patient safety, respond effectively in emergency situations, acting as the patients advocate
Continually assesses patient status according to data collected, i.e., signs and symptoms, abnormal diagnostic data, health education, emotional and spiritual needs
Formulates oral and written documentation of patients’ condition
Acts as liaison between patients, physicians, and personnel from other departments
Assists in patient teaching and discharge planning
Works efficiently with physicians and assists them in patient care, emergency room, labor and delivery
Assists in planning of care for members of the team
Instructs professional and nonprofessional staff through conferences and example
Assists the charge nurse in supervising, guiding, motivating, counseling, correcting, and commending
Completes assigned educations programs
Assists in keeping the nursing unit clean and tidy
Assists with admission and other paperwork
Uses the intercom system and answers the phone
Assists with Quality Assurance review of charts
Ensures the confidentiality of patients’ medical, personal, and financial records is maintained
Knowledgeable of and committed to practicing Corporate Compliance policies and procedures
Complies with Cherry County Hospital personnel policies
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Skills and Abilities Required
Requires a basic theoretical emergency medicine knowledge with application of knowledge and skills
Ability to make sound judgements and decisions concerning patient care
Recognizes the proper channels of communication
Knowledge of physical organization of the hospital, as well as the hospital policies and procedures
Understands the legal aspect of emergency medical care
Ability to maintain complete confidentiality regarding patient care services
Keeps abreast of new trends and developments in emergency care
Interested in continuing professional growth
Has a preference for working with the public and other staff
Desires to be responsible for and manage other staff
Possesses personal qualities which enable the staff to maintain good interpersonal relationships and work well with people; examples of these are good judgement, understanding, loyalty, respect for the person as an individual, and empathy
Must be knowledgeable of state and federal confidentiality laws, including but not limited to HIPAA, and be familiar with and follow all policies, procedures and instructions regarding the privacy and security of protected health information applicable to the position
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Work may be physically and emotionally demanding; involves lifting and positioning patients
Environment requires working in close proximity with others in a clean, favorable area
Physical demands require sitting for long periods of time, standing and bending as required
Requires regular working hours with possibility of overtime
Dexterity is needed to operate equipment, telephone, intercom system and other tasks as required to meet patient care needs
Repetitive use of hands, arms, and eyes could cause strain
Must be agile, able to move carefully around patients and equipment with ease
Job involves the potential for exposure to hazardous material such as contaminated body fluids
Must possess the knowledge and insight to comply with universal precautions and hospital policies and procedures

Requirements :
Minimum Job Requirements
Graduate from an accredited Paramedic course
Possesses a license to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Nebraska
