JOB SUMMARY: Provides occupational therapy services to students with varying disabilities under the direction and supervision of a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist. Supports students with significant needs to promote sensory motor skill development, modify the environment, implement accommodations, and adapt activities to support student success and participation. Collaborates with all members of the IEP team and families to improve student outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out. Job Task Descriptions Frequency Percentage of Time



  • Plans and implements therapeutic programs, based on individual’s goals and objectives, under the supervision of a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist.

    Daily 40%



  • Consults regularly with supervising Occupational Therapist to support OT service provision and the SSN educational program through the implementation of interventions, accommodations, modifications, modifying adaptive equipment and therapeutic activities.

    Daily 15%



  • Assists supervising Occupational Therapist with instructing the educational staff concerning use of adaptive equipment, positioning program, preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and integrating therapy goals into the classrooms to enhance student function and participation.

    Daily 10%



  • Supports the supervising occupational therapist in the design of therapeutic activities, materials preparation, managing therapeutic equipment, and maintaining safety parameters.

    Daily 10%



  • Contributes to progress reports by collecting data and other record keeping assistance as needed by supervising Occupational Therapist.

    Daily 10%



  • Completes Medicaid forms as directed by supervising Occupational Therapist.

    Daily 5%



  • Attend Occupational Therapy meetings unless otherwise discussed with supervising Occupational Therapist and/or Coordinator and attends IEP meetings as directed by supervising Occupational Therapist.

    Monthly 5%



  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

    • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
    • Associate's degree
    • Completion of a two-year accredited program in Occupational Therapy Assistant
    • Basic knowledge of technology for communication and formal documentation
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
    • Basic organizational skills
    • Intermediate verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
    • Ability to support programs designed to increase student achievement
    • Ability and desire to work as a team member
    • Ability to understand, appreciate, and make accommodations for student diversity

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands, mental functions, cognitive capacities, and work environment factors required to perform a position’s essential functions.     • Medium work strength level (lifting or carrying 50 pounds)
    • Works both indoors and outdoors
    • Typically a moderate noise level

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other qualifications relevant to the position that are strongly preferred but not mandatory for a candidate to be considered.

    • Experience working in the public sector
    • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
    • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement
    • Experience working with children with developmental disabilities
