JOB SUMMARY : Supervise all bus drivers and bus assistants. Ensure all routes and trips are completed on-time with available resources. Review GPS reports and onboard video cameras. Enforce progressive discipline as needed. Complete employee evaluations. Administer the student management program. Represent the district at meetings, conferences, and seminars in a professional manner. Required to obtain a Class B CDL License with P and S endorsements, and transport students to and from school.

Supervise, assign work to ensure coverage, and evaluate all assigned bus drivers and bus assistants. Provide work direction, identify and resolve transportation issues, schedule retraining, and problem-solve route and personnel issues. Provide customer service to our transportation employees. Enforce progressive discipline as needed and complete employee evaluations. Administer the student management program. Initiate protocols to ensure students are being transported safely to and from school. Monitor all aspects of bus driver and bus assistant performance, including spot checking for pre-trips, and post-trips, appropriate use of specialized equipment, and driving ability. Respond to accident scenes, assess damage and injuries, and implement reasonable suspicion protocols when deemed necessary. Follow all accident protocols. Transport students to and from school daily.

Monitor ongoing two-way radio and telephone communications with transportation, district security, dispatch, and school personnel as required. Meet with transportation employees, students, parents/guardians, school employees, and district administrators, to review onboard video.

Use specialized software programs to compile department forms, detailed maps, graphic and other operational paperwork. Utilize GPS tracking system, and vehicle computerized tablets for turn by turn directions.

Implement emergency procedures (e.g. snow days, accidents, early school closure, emergency closures) when necessary. Share in after hours, weekend and holiday on-call responsibilities.

Represent the district at meetings, conferences, and seminars in a professional manner. Meet with personnel within other transportation departments within the state for problem solving, coordination, and implementation of new rules and regulations. Attend in-district bus driver meetings at schools and represent bus driver and bus assistant interests and concerns.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS : This job has supervisor responsibilities including, but not limited to, interviewing, hiring, directing work, assigning work, supervising work, training, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating. Direct reports:

  • Hourly Transportation Support

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience
  • Required to obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, Class B, with a P and S Endorsement within (90) days to maintain this position
  • Possess and maintain a good driving record
  • Ability to meet Colorado School District Self-Insurance Pool Insurability Requirements
  • Administrative assistant/clerical, payroll, accounting, or human resources experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of school buses, emergency equipment, safety vests, wheelchair lifts and all other adaptive securements to safely transport students with disabilities
  • Ability to deescalate confrontational bus drivers, bus assistants, parents/guardians, and students
  • Ability to work alone and collaboratively with others
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and interact positively and constructively with supervisors, staff members, students, the community, and any other district stakeholder
  • Ability to demonstrate concern for student safety and customer service
  • Ability to work varying daily schedules and locations

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS : Formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other qualifications relevant to the position that are strongly preferred but not mandatory for a candidate to be considered.

  • Experience working in the public sector

  • Bilingual
  • Specialized classes beyond high school or equivalent
  • Previous employee management or school bus transportation experience
  • Previous experience driving Class A or Class B vehicles
