SUMMARY : Assist the Director of Gifted and Talented Services in supporting the identification of and programming for students designated as twice exceptional. Create and deliver staff development to administrators, school psychologists, special education staff, gifted education staff, and general education staff in the area of identification of and programming for potential and/or existing twice-exceptional students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only.
- Support schools, educational leaders, and teachers in the assessment, identification, and programming of gifted, talented, and twice-exceptional learners. [Daily, 15%]
- Design and assist in the implementation of twice-exceptional programming K-12. [Daily, 10%]
- Regularly support training for building-level teachers and specialists and provide support for teachers on social emotional instructional best practices in supporting gifted, talented, and twice exceptional learners, resource alignment, and data analysis. [Daily, 10%]
- Attend assessment planning, initial evaluation, annual review, and other types of Special Education, 504, acceleration meetings to support twice-exceptional students. [Daily, 10%]
- Under the direction of the Director of Gifted and Talented Services, provide coaching and training to district-level and school staff in effective assessment, intervention, and academic as well as behavioral strategies appropriate for gifted, talented, and twice-exceptional students. [Daily, 5%]
- Monitor entry and progress of students, as appropriate, including the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure that the educational needs of gifted students with disabilities are being met and that the district is in legal compliance with state and federal guidelines. [Weekly, 10%]
- Co-plan and Co-facilitate department led professional development offerings as well as parent meetings/workshops. [Weekly, 5%]
- Keep abreast of current research and state/national information regarding gifted learners to lead the department and district in best practice and the creation of products that clearly communicate to key stakeholders. [Monthly, 5%]
- Support the organization, implementation, and refinement of district-level programs designed to support the enrichment of gifted, talented, and twice-exceptional students including, but not limited to, Inside Out, Destination Imagination, Chess Club, and Spelling Bee. [Monthly, 5%]
- Support the Early Access process and program through acting as a primary assessor as well as participating in all parent meetings as well as the creation and monitoring of Early Access Advanced Learning Plans. [Quarterly, 10%]
- Support the district’s Acceleration and Challenge School admission processes through acting as a primary assessor as well as attending all planning and parent meetings associated with said processes. [Quarterly, 10%]
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience as a special education teacher or specialist.
- Experience with gifted education program evaluation.
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Basic knowledge of clinical supervision.
- Intermediate knowledge of organizational theory and its application.
- Intermediate knowledge of special education laws and best practices for special education and gifted and talented identification practices.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS :
All certifications, licenses, and registrations must be valid and unexpired.
- Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
- CDE Special Education Generalist (ages 5-21) endorsement
- Colorado driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Formal education beyond a Bachelor’s degree.
- Five (5) years of experience in identification of and programming for gifted students.
- Experience working with multiple constituent groups (i.e., students, parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, administrators, outside agencies, etc.).
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Colorado Administrator/Principal License.
- Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.
