JOB SUMMARY : This position is a mid-level position with ability to become a Mechanic I with emphasis on being able to assist Foremen in daily duties. To maintain and repair district vehicles as specified by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations with special regard to safety and efficiency. Inspection of vehicles for compliance to regulations, safety guidelines, mechanical performance and efficient operation. Knowledge of practices, procedures and the ability to perform or utilize them in the repair and maintenance of district vehicles. Knowledge and ability to use properly all tools, equipment, measuring devices.

Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines. Perform diesel tune ups including fuel pump, Injector diagnosis & replacement and set overhead (valves).

Diagnose and repair of chassis and body electrical, starters and charging systems.
Daily 10%
Repair drive train systems, 4wd systems, differentials, U-joints, mount & dismount, balance various sizes & types of tires and wheels.
Daily 10%
Diagnose and repair light and heavy-duty suspension and steering systems. Weekly 10%
Diagnose and repair heating, cooling systems on all types of vehicles.
Weekly 10%
Diagnose, repair and inspect hydraulic, ABS and air brake systems.
Daily 5%
Perform tune ups on gas engines.
Daily 5%
Operate laptop computer with engine, transmission, ABS and other software programs to diagnose and repair electronic controlled vehicles

Drive to work towards CDE Inspector License and ASE certifications

Perform road calls without supervision.

Input work orders into computer Fleet software system. Accuracy in line notes and VMRS posting a must. Weekly 5%

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS : This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
- Three (3) years Bus mechanic, medium and / or heavy-duty mechanic, or foreman experience.
- Must obtain / retain a Commercial Driver's License, Class B" with a "P" Endorsement for school bus within 1-2 years
- Must obtain / retain CPR / First Aid Certificate within 1 year.
- Must obtain / retain CDE (Colorado Department of Education) Inspector License within 2 years.
