The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides strategic leadership, direction, oversight, and planning for a wide variety of medical and related activities for Cherry Health. This position will work collaboratively with the operations and executive leadership team to drive alignment and efficiencies related to all Cherry Health provider members, staff, payors, management, processes, procedures, and implementation strategies. The CMO is also an inclusive leader and team player who inspires physicians, nurses and staff at all levels. This position has impact on the quality and financial outcomes of clinical and operational departments throughout Cherry Health.
The CMO will network and build consensus, collaborate, and problem solve. This position will play a key role in the implementation of strategic and operating plans, in particular the strategies for physician relationships and service line development. These activities and initiatives shall be identified by the CMO and accomplished through the existing and/or future medical staff structures/committees, health centers, operations, support departments, as well as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Team meetings.

Requirements:

Licensed to practice medicine in Michigan. DEA Registration. Board Certified. Insurable as a physician for liability insurance. In addition, MPH, MBA, or related

Physician with at least 10 years of practice experience preferably medical family practice or internal medicine. At least three years health care service operations/managerial experience, preferably in an FQHC, a managed care organization, or a large group practice.

Prior experience in provider compensation models preferred, including experience administering provider productivity incentive programs.

Prior experience in identifying strategic medical health center workflows, and in ensuring all practices will positively impact and align with business strategies and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate leadership and management skills that foster a culture of mentoring, coaching, motivating and engaging staff
- Supports fiscal goals by and identifying spending or cost avoidance strategies.
- Constantly assesses processes looking to eliminate waste and fosters a culture of continuous process improvement.
- Formulates, plans, and supports delivery of stretch goals in a competitive setting.
- Model and communicate key values in the community and to staff in a way that supports Cherry Health’s mission.
- Basic Life Support/CPR training according to requirements of license and/or certification.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally with diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and decisions.
- Knowledge of medical policies and procedures.
- Educate and empower staff to be adept at meeting current and future organizational needs, and adjust schedule staff hours of work, priorities, and assignments to ensure efficient operation, based on workload.
- Direct, supervise, train, evaluate competencies and address performance issues consistently, promptly and appropriately.
- Plan and facilitate meetings to communicate organization initiatives and updates to staff.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of department/program budget.
- Participate in the development, monitoring and achievement of clinical goals and of the programs through which these goals are accomplished.
- Manage the development of standards of care.
- Partner with Human Resources to counsel and direct disciplinary processes for clinical staff.
- Report to the Board of Directors on medical-related items.
- Assist in the development of programs and grant writing.
- Provide direct patient care and treatment in accordance with board certification.
- Assist with recruitment activities of medical providers, including leading the provider privileging committee.
- Understand and adhere to Cherry Health’s compliance standards as they appear in Cherry Health’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Agency regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Ensure that staff within reporting structure are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
