The Optician's primary responsibility is assisting patients with frame selection, eyeglass orders, verification, fitting and dispensing of eyewear. This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefit eligible position. Typically working Monday - Friday, from 7:45am-5:00pm, with one late night until 7pm on either Tuesday or Thursday. Travel to School Program and to our Montcalm Area Health Center is required.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.

Ophthalmic and/or sales experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above. Must enroll in Optician training program within 6 months of start and complete within one year of enrollment (paid by Cherry Health).
- CPR certification (offered at Cherry Health) required
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients in appropriate frame selection.
- Verify patient information.
- Evaluate patients for eligible discounts and special funds.
- Verify insurance eligibility.
- Evaluate new Rx and properly set patient expectations.
- Determine optimal lens material & style.
- Take accurate measurements for lens style.
- Supply patients with transparent pricing.
- Enter patient orders.
- Submit orders to appropriate insurance websites.
- Accurately take payments.
- Make patient aware of typical order delivery time.
- Verify glasses using lensometer.
- Document glasses orders, arrivals, and dispenses.
- Notify patient of glasses arrival.
- Perform eyeglass adjustment and repairs.
- Assure patient education regarding usage and cleaning of glasses.
- Notify management of any patient complaints.
- Work with Optician II or III to trouble-shoot patient complaints.
- Frame board management.
- Assist with inventory.
