The Commercial PV Designer is accountable for all technical and design work of assigned C&I PV/ Distributed Generation projects from conceptual design to final completion. This includes utilizing gathered site data from the Assessment team to design a system that functions within the constraints of the site, meets the needs and expectations of the clients and provides a best-in-class PV system. This role will work within the Design and Engineering team and report directly to the Design Manager.
The ideal candidate must be an enthusiastic problem solver, self-motivated, hands-on, results-oriented, detail-oriented and a team player.
Key Responsibilities:
- Development, documentation and creation of system design deliverables required to construct a high performing Commercial PV system.
- Develop finalized module layouts based on gathered imagery and drone analysis.
- Work with Engineer and project staff to develop and maintain design standards and specifications.
- Create design layouts, single line diagrams and other electrical schematics for commercial scale solar arrays utilizing AutoCAD.
- Create structural/racking design packets utilizing internal and external software and design packages.
- Prepare documents for final Engineering review and approval.
- Ensure design compliance with applicable codes and company design standards with engineering oversight.
- Prepare drawings for internal purposes as well as all project stages including utility interconnection, permitting, construction and record/as-built drawings.
- Work with Project Management and Construction teams to provide design support prior to and during construction.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in design of commercial photovoltaic systems.
- High proficiency in AutoCAD.
- BOM development and estimating experience.
Desired Skills/Attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a similar technical field from an accredited university.
- Knowledge of electrical principles and technical aspects of PV design.
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional or PV Design Specialist Certification (or equivalent).
- Helioscope and PVsyst proficiency.
- Knowledge of industry standard design codes such as NEC, NFPA and UL.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
