Certified Pest Control Operator Lawn & Ornamental

JOB SUMMARY 

The Certified Operator will be responsible for managing cardholders and applying herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers to lawns, trees, and shrubs. This role involves diagnosing and resolving landscape horticultural issues using best management practices and integrated pest management (IPM) techniques. The operator will map and route territories for spray treatments, ensuring precise and accurate application. The operator will also mix chemicals in tanks according to specifications, applying them to target areas while maintaining proper speed and coverage. Daily cleaning and maintenance of spray filters and nozzles are required. Prior to use, the operator must verify that all safety shields and covers on equipment are in proper working order. Compliance with all company, state, and federal regulations regarding the handling and storage of chemicals, as well as manufacturer instructions, is essential. The operator will also be responsible for maintaining accurate chemical application records and logs. Strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

• Treat specific insect, weed, turf diseases, and nutritional deficiencies by applying the appropriate products.
• Utilize Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices when applicable to help minimize pesticide use.
• Ensure that spray equipment and vehicles assigned to your area are maintained in a safe, clean, and mechanically sound condition at all times.
• Verify that all field vehicles and equipment comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Complete spray requests according to schedule and check out chemicals to crews, ensuring proper documentation on chemical check-out sheets.
• Discuss the next day's tasks with the supervisor to ensure proper planning.
• Maintain accurate records of chemical usage in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
• Use sound judgment in the application of chemicals, considering factors such as public exposure, weather conditions, and environmental impact.
• Provide and maintain a safe work environment for employees assigned to spray duties in accordance with OSHA standards.
• Adhere to all company driving safety policies and regulations.
• Complete weekly vehicle and equipment inspection reports, and perform daily/weekly inventory counts of equipment and supplies.
• Perform daily/weekly inventory counts of equipment and supplies. 
• Track daily work hours.
• Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum 3 year experience in landscape spraying
• Spray Technician License (Florida)
• Valid Driver's License with clean MVR
• Commercial Fertilizer and Pesticide License (Florida)
• BMP Green Industry Certification a plus
• Detail oriented with highly evolved organizational skills, effective time management and excellent follow up.
• High level of professional maturity, superior written & oral communications skills.

HOURS OF WORK 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will be Monday thru Friday start and end times vary depending on organizational needs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather (heat or cold), and moving mechanical equipment. In addition, job sites are located on both residential and commercial property. Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to effectively use small hand tools, equipment.  Requires sitting, standing, bending and walking for long periods of time during the day and night. Repetitive lifting of up to 50 lbs.
