About the Role
A well-established multi-generational private family office in Garden City, NY, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership and oversee a team of 25 professionals, including four Controllers.
The CFO will be responsible for driving financial planning, optimizing operational efficiency, and ensuring the financial health of a diverse residential real estate portfolio.
This role is ideal for a senior finance executive with deep experience in real estate accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and treasury management, as well as a proven track record of managing large teams and working in a family office or real estate investment environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Leadership: Develop and implement financial strategies to optimize profitability, cash flow, and long-term growth of the real estate portfolio.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and oversee a finance team of 25 professionals, including 4 Controllers, ensuring seamless financial operations across multiple entities.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Oversee the preparation of financial statements, investor reports, tax filings, and audits, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and monitor annual budgets, financial projections, and variance analyses to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
- Treasury & Cash Management: Manage cash flow, banking relationships, debt financing, and investment strategies to ensure financial stability and liquidity.
- Operational Efficiency: Implement best practices in accounting, internal controls, and financial processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks through strong governance and compliance oversight.
Qualifications & Experience
- 12 years of experience in real estate finance, accounting, or private family office financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (CFO, VP of Finance, or similar).
- Strong expertise in real estate accounting, financial reporting, property management finance, and investment analysis.
- Proven experience managing large finance teams (15 people), including multiple Controllers and accounting professionals.
- CPA or MBA preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in real estate financial software (Yardi, MRI, etc.)
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
