What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Maintenance Technician position at Chesapeake College?
The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of the College's campuses. This position works under the direction of the Maintenance & Energy Supervisor and assists Trade Technicians in maintaining all facets of the College's facilities systems and equipment.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and communication. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills, with at least three years of experience in any combination of the following trades: Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry. A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required, as well as the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains all aspects of the College's facilities, including equipment, buildings, and grounds
- Assists Trade Technicians in maintaining all facets of the College's facilities systems and equipment
- Performs general maintenance duties, including carpentry and painting
- Aquires and maintains all necessary certificates to operate equipment
- Works independently or under the supervision of a licensed tradesperson to complete assigned tasks
The General Maintenance Technician is an essential position, requiring the ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and college emergencies. Safety equipment will be provided where needed and required to be worn or used.
