POSITION SUMMARY
The phlebotomist works as part of the clinical team and is responsible for performing accurate specimen collection and processing. This position reports to the Clinical Manager at that site.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Achieve Results
- Collects and processes specimens as ordered by provider.
- Adheres to the Infection Control Plan and maintains the lab accordingly.
Operational Excellence
- Adheres to rigid safety standards to ensure the safety of themselves and their patients.
- Displays knowledge of various protocols associated with different corresponding tests.
Relationships
- Develop and ensure effective, positive relationships within and among the clinical staff, patients, vendors, contractors, and related resources.
- Possess a positive working relationship with patients providing emotional support/safety to all patients receiving lab work.
Leadership & Stewardship
- Uphold and consistently represent the values, mission, and policies of the organization at all times.
PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES
· Collects blood specimens from patients by using finger stick, heel stick and/or venipuncture
· Greets patients, verifies identity of patient and test and instructs them in proper specimen collection methods
· Labels specimens for identification purposes and enters specimen data into computer or paper log for Quest, PRMC, etc.
· Prepares specimens for reference laboratory by using centrifuge to spin blood, if required.
· Knowledgeable about current lab equipment
· Maintains patient information
· Keeps work areas clean and orderly
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrate communication skills with regulatory agencies, government entities, network providers, and lab vendors.
- Knowledge and ability to use laboratory equipment, computer systems, in the collection and processing specimens.
- Read, write, and maintain patient records and related administrative documentation.
- Standing 75% of the time .
- A medium to high level of manual dexterity required
- Bending and reaching approximately 20% of the time
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
· High school diploma
· Phlebotomy certificate preferred
Experience
· 1 to 3 years experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour
