What are the responsibilities and job description for the Therapeutic Summer Program Counselor position at Chesapeake Health Care?
This is a seasonal summer position from mid June to mid August. It is Monday through Friday working 30-40 hours per week. No benefits are included.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Therapeutic Summer Program Counselor will work as part of the therapeutic summer program team. They will participate with all activities assigned for that day. The Therapeutic Summer Program Counselor will work under the leadership and guidance of the Mental Health Therapists.

PRIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES
- Help engage and direct clients in therapeutic activities planned for the day.
- Ride and supervise clients on school bus both in the morning and afternoon.
- Participate in physical activities (such as swimming, basketball) that may involve extreme heat during the summer months.
- Implement behavior plans established by therapist's instructions.
- Follow direction of and assist therapists in implementation of daily activities.
- Attend clinical team meetings weekly.
- Engage in pro-social language and modeling positive behavior for clients.
- Provide consistency in discipline and behavior charting as outlined by therapist team.
- Display appropriate boundaries with clients.
- Keep client information confidential as required by law.
- Assist in serving and clean-up of breakfast, lunch and snack to clients.
- Assist in end of day clean-up of facility.
- Keep client safety paramount, understanding how to handle agitated clients or those that are at risk for self-harm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES
- Ability to communicate and interact with children and adolescents.
- Ability to organize, manage and control work flow to meet deadlines.
- Be able to be physically active participating in sports such as swimming, playing ball, hiking, etc.
- Able to work outside in heat.
- Self-reliant, dependable, and a team player.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
· High school diploma or GED
· College experience preferred in social work or psychology but not necessary
Experience
· Experience working with children/adolescents preferred
· Must have own transportation
· Must have a driver’s license with clean driving record
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
