RN, Clinical Nurse Educator - FLEXI
Summary
The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the initial and ongoing education and competency assessment and evaluation process within the assigned units. The Nurse Educator assists Nursing Services and provides programs and training to enhance the development of technical, psychomotor, and critical thinking domains. The Nurse Educator will maintain clinical competency in order to best assess and assist the needs of the units assigned.
Orientation and Competency
- Under the direction of the Nurse Manager for Education, and in collaboration with other Nurse Managers and Clinical Coordinators, initiate, plan, implement, and evaluate the orientation and competency program for newly employed/transferred nursing staff and current staff as necessary for assigned units and areas
- Collaborate with the employee, Clinical Coordinator, and preceptor to provide input and recommendations to the manager for the action plan for employees who are not making satisfactory progress toward clinical competency.
- Facilitate and/or provide support as needed for general nursing orientation
- Evaluate and maintain the competency assessment program and provide input, as needed, for annual reviews with the Nursing Manager
- Adjust implementation plans as appropriate based on patient population and services
Clinical and Educational Consultant
- Act as a clinical consultant for nursing staff and other clinical areas as needed
- Research current evidence-based literature and practice to support growth of nursing personnel
- Respond to request for clinical guidance with new procedures and/or equipment within the scope of practice
- Provide ongoing specialty skills review for staff and maintain appropriate records
- Develop and implement initiatives and projects to meet education and clinical needs
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Maintain sufficient bedside presence in order to adequately assess the needs of the unit as well as provide support to staff
Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: MSN, or BSN with completion of eligible MSN program within 2 years.
Experience: 3 years in an inpatient acute care facility and in an area of specialty clinical responsibility.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Minimum Required: Applicant must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact state. Must maintain BLS. Other certifications as required of nurses working in the clinical area assigned.
Become a CRH Training Facility Instructor within one year of hire, as applicable to assigned unit.
Preferred: Certification in Nursing Professional Development and/or clinical specialty related to assigned units
