Job Summary
The Systems Engineer I is responsible for operating the organization's IT systems, networks, and applications, and to ensure the stable operation of these systems and network connections as well as providing supplemental support to an existing desktop support role. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software and communications links. The person will also analyze and resolve end user software programs and connectivity issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide peer and end user training where required. The Engineer I should be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
- SCCM administration, including OSD, patch management, software distribution, and reporting
- Configure exchange recipient
- Backup management and maintenance
- SCOM maintenance
- Citrix app / user administration
- Basic / Intermediate Cisco LAN switching administration
- Basic WebSense / Web Filtering Administration
- Physical / Virtual Server provisioning
- Application packaging
- Troubleshoot and resolve second level support tickets
- Rumba TID creation and maintenance
- Advanced workstation troubleshooting
- Create and maintain Active Directory design and operations documentation
- Adhere to and help shape policies and procedures as well as implement appropriate controls and compliance monitoring to effectively deliver and safeguard information assets
- Provide on-call technical support 24x7x365; participation in the existing on-call rotation is mandatory
- Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts
- Monitor server resources and assist in routine checkups
- Help devise, implement, and monitor backups for storage repositories (Tapes, Disk-to-Disk)
- Provide support in configuring and maintaining new and existing hardware
- Provide support in configuring and maintaining Cisco Call Manager, Unity Voicemail, and Presence VOIP systems
- Install and configure software and hardware on servers and desktop workstations
- Help support, manage, and troubleshoot the virtual environment (vSphere, View), both workstations and servers
- Help support, manage, and troubleshoot issues with the Citrix and View environments
- Provide desktop support including purchasing hardware, setup and configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Support various company software used for business purposes
- Assist with enterprise storage management (SAN, NAS, etc.)
- Help resolve incidents escalated from the Helpdesk
- Provide first, second, and third level desktop support as needed
- Interact with vendors and contractors with manager consent
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use
- Perform routine systems analysis and security audits
- Monitor and test for performance and provide statistics and reports
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software and firmware improvements and upgrades
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
- Maintain competence and upgrade skills through continued education

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education : High school diploma or equivalent with experience equivalent to that of a bachelors degree
Preferred Education : Bachelors degree in Computer Science
Experience : 5 years overall IT experience, and 2 years Information Technology experience specific to supporting, administering, and implementing information system technologies in the desktop and server arena
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Applicant must hold at least one (1) nationally recognized certification from Microsoft, CompTIA, VMware, Cisco, Linux, etc. More than one certification is preferred.
