Maintenance Technician / Customer Service Representative

Job Description

The position of Maintenance Technician requires an individual with excellent customer service skills. This individual is often the face of the Cheshire Companies as they interact with our tenants at our various locations. They must also be a person of high integrity, trustworthiness, patience and dependability as they may be required to enter a business after hours and/or handle cash in the discourse of their daily duties.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a handy self-starter with a basic working knowledge of property maintenance.
  • Able to effectively manage maintenance requests and complete them in a timely manner and in the order which they were received or by level of urgency.
  • Must be friendly, approachable and able to establish and maintain good rapport and professional relationships with tenants, vendors and other company employees while providing maintenance services and working with other contracted vendors.
  • Must maintain communication throughout the day with the office/dispatcher.
  • Extensive experience is not essential, but a generally “handy” personality type is very important.
  • Comfortable working both indoors, outdoors and in the heat, cold and sometimes rain.
  • Must be able to lift, bend and be on your feet for extended periods.
  • Able to communicate through text, email, phone and/or other electronic means.

Mobile devices are a tool of the job and excessive personal use should be avoided.

  • MUST BE FLEXIBLE and willing to do whatever it takes to “get the job done” as the Maintenance Tech is often required to move back and forth between jobs with little notice.

SKILLS THAT ARE A PLUS

  • Plumbing: includes the repair, replacement or installation of faucets, pipes, hot water tanks, toilets.
  • Electrical : includes the repair, replacement or installation of power switches, fuses, wall sockets, ceiling lights, ceiling fans, climate control systems, and garage doors openers.
  • Drywall Repair: includes filling in small holes caused by nails and minor dings from normal wear and tear–most commonly performed between the time a tenant vacates a unit and a new renter assumes occupancy.
  • Painting: includes minor touch-ups following damage repair and new coats of paint applied to unit walls between tenants.
  • Appliance repair: includes the repair, replacement or installation of items such as refrigerators, hot water tanks, and some minor air conditioning repair.
  • Grounds keeping: includes pulling weeds, trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, watering lawns and plants, replacing light bulbs along pathways and parking areas, sweeping or raking leaves, and tidying up bark or other ground covering.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
