    Summary of Position:
    The Assistant Principal has primary responsibility for: academic, career and technical, support and paraprofessional staff supervision and evaluation; student discipline; school crisis response and school safety program; staff duty rosters; liaison with sending school assistant principals; and the day-to-day operation of the school. The Assistant Principal also has shared responsibility for: student attendance, admissions, and special education staff supervision. The Assistant Principal assists the Building Principal in organizing the building for instruction and interviewing new hires.

    Dimensions and Organizational Relationships of Position:
    The position reports directly to the Principal of the Technical College High School and ultimately to the CTCE Director. The Assistant Principal has the authority to sign all purchase requisitions, personal leave and conference requests, approvals for hiring, and petty cash. The Assistant Principal also has primary responsibility to supervise and direct the work of all career and technical, academic, and support staff.

    Essential Duties and Program Responsibilities:
    • Oversee day-to-day operation of the school
      • Oversee the daily operations of the school to ensure a safe, effective, and organized learning environment.
      • Coordinate and supervise faculty and staff extra duty (non-teaching) assignments.
      • Schedule and manage daily substitute teacher assignments to ensure adequate classroom coverage.
      • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations for academic and operational standards.
    • Student discipline and attendance
      • Implement and monitor student discipline procedures in alignment with the school’s discipline code.
      • Maintain accurate records of disciplinary actions and ensure proper documentation.
      • Organize, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of student attendance, including annual attendance reports.
      • Address chronic attendance concerns in collaboration with community and government agencies.
      • Perform duties associated with the school truancy process and recommend resolutions.
      • Participate in the Student Assistance Program and coordinate resources for at-risk students.
    • School safety and crisis response program
      • Lead and coordinate the School Safety and Crisis Response Program, including monthly evacuation drills, annual off-site evacuation drills, and lockdown drills.
      • Collaborate with district and community partners to ensure comprehensive safety planning.
    • Staff supervision and evaluation
      • Oversee the supervision, performance assessment, and evaluation of academic, career and technical, support, and paraprofessional staff.
      • Assist in the orientation of new faculty and provide ongoing support.
      • Provide instructional leadership by observing and evaluating classroom instruction.
      • Collaborate with the Principal and other leaders in hiring and assigning instructional personnel.
      • Support the implementation of educational best practices and district initiatives.
    • Academic Leadership
      • Implement and monitor academic and CTE curriculum ensuring alignment with state standards, industry certifications, and postsecondary/workforce expectations.
      • Facilitate department meetings and instructional planning sessions.
      • Analyze student performance data to adjust curriculum and teaching strategies.
      • Provide instructional support to teachers to enhance student learning and academic achievement.
      • Plan and implement professional development programs tailored to staff needs and school goals.
      • Promote cross-disciplinary collaboration between academic and technical staff.
    • Student recruitment/admissions
      • Lead student recruitment efforts for all Career and Technical programs.
      • Participate in the admissions process.
      • Promote the school and its programs through community engagement and public relations initiatives.
    • Special programs and events
      • Oversee program supplies, equipment, renovations, PDE state grants, staff travel, public relations, substitutes, transportation, and academic supplies.
      • Coordinate and administer the PA Skills/NOCTI/Keystone tests to all senior completers.
      • Oversee and support student organizations, including competitions, transportation, fundraising, and field trips.
      • Coordinate all Student Organization activities, including local, state and national competitions, transportation, fund raising and field trips.
    • Collaboration and community engagement
      • Act as a liaison with sending school assistant principals and other educational stakeholders.
      • Engage parents and the community in school programs and events.
      • Demonstrate a high level of internal and external customer service.
      • Foster a collaborative, inclusive school culture that supports student achievement and staff development.
      • Develop partnerships with local businesses and industry leaders to help ensure student internships and cooperative learning opportunities
    • Additional responsibilities
      • Assist the Principal in the overall administration of the school.
      • Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned by the Principal or Division Director.
      • Support the school’s mission and guiding principles to promote student success.
      • All other responsibilities as assigned.

    Education and Experience:
    • Master’s degree
    • 5 years professional secondary school experience
    • 3 years supervisor or administrative experience preferred

    • Ability to interpret technical instructions and regulations involving both abstract and concrete variables.
    • Ability to apply sound judgment to resolve conflicts and solve problems.
    • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administration, agencies, and the community.
    • Ability to transport between central office and various locations throughout the county and state as required by the position.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
    • Ability to meet demands from several people, and to multi-task.

    Certifications required/preferred:
    • PDE Secondary School Principal’s Certification and/or Vocational Education Supervisory Certification

    Salary Range (2025-2026):
    Administrators, Level F ($118,603/year - $148,253/year)
    • Salary is based on years of direct experience in a comparable role.
    260 day position, 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week
