What are the responsibilities and job description for the Drug and Alcohol Counselor - Changes Program position at Chester County Intermediate Unit?
- Current PA licensure as a Social Worker (LSW), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Professional Counselor (LPC), required
- A Master’s degree or higher from an accredited College with a major in medicine, chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing public administration or other related field, required
- Minimum of 1 year of counseling experience in a drug and alcohol setting. If the candidate’s experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.
- Current PA Child Abuse History, PA Criminal and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (before start date), required
- Provides direct therapeutic services through individual and group interventions.
- Develops, implements and reviews therapeutic plans. Maintain daily progress notes as well as supporting documentation necessary for fiscal and insurance requirements.
- Leads and collaborates with all team members, including parent(s), to ensure consistent and effective therapeutic intervention.
- Designs and implements services to meet individual and organizational outcome expectations.
- Coordinates and implements cognitive-behavioral interventions to clients.
- Primary Program representative in working with families, school districts and other child serving agencies to meet the student and family needs.
- Participates in interagency and team meetings.
- Exercises independent clinical judgment in defining significant life intervention with student and family.
- Ensures confidentiality of information as required by the federal, state and local regulations.

Summary of Position:
The Drug and Alcohol Counselor is responsible for facilitating and providing direct therapeutic interventions consisting of group and individual therapy, treatment planning, designing and implementing effective interventions and strategies to promote therapeutic recovery.
The counselor is the lead team member responsible for coordinating therapeutic interventions with program staff, client, parents, and outside services. The counselor will be responsible in completing required documentation such as treatment and discharge plans, psycho-social history, daily progress notes, insurance forms. The counselor maintains close communication with the client’s parent(s) to monitor and promote progress The counselor is a key part of the D&A program and has the responsibility to contribute to the overall development of the program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Salary (2024-25 rates):
Project Staff, Band 14 (260 days/12 months)
$64,395 - $80,494 annually - (Placement on band is based on direct full-time experience as a licensed clinician)
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 260 calendar days (12 months)
8 hrs per day (7.5 hrs working)
