What are the responsibilities and job description for the Home and School Visitor position at Chester Upland School District?
- Develop positive interpersonal relationships between members of the pupil personnel services team, social restoration specialists and external referral agencies, community and neighborhood organizations, and individuals involved in the student’s home-life, to facilitate optimal schooling opportunity and personal development of the pupil;
- Engage in social case work;
- Investigate family problems;
- Assist staff in collaborating with community resource providers and social work agencies;
- Serve as attendance officer, who is able to investigate reasons for school absences by pupils, enforce compulsory attendance provisions, and prevent incorrigible, insubordinate or disorderly conduct of students during school, or on their way to or from school; and
- Provide for students’ needs through appropriate referral to a certified school psychologist or certified school counselor.
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone.
- Uses calculating devices.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
- Appropriate Standard Pennsylvania Certification (Home and School Visitor)
- Preferred experience in an urban school setting
- The following are required:
- PA Criminal clearances
- PA Child Abuse clearances
- FBI clearances
- Physical including TB Test
- Proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Receipt of a completed application, resume, cover letter and transcripts
- A minimum of three current written letters of reference from previous or current directors, principal, and supervisors

REPORTS TO: Director of Attendance, Climate and Culture
Primary Function:
The Home and School Visitor serves as a liaison between school and student home on attendance/truancy issues; liaison between school and community groups providing outreach and benefit programs for special needs students; responsible party for determination of student eligibility for variety of school and community benefit programs.
Reports To and Evaluated By:
With support and direction from the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, the Home and School Visitor reports to the Director of Attendance, Climate and Culture and is evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.

Physical Necessities and Work Environment:
Position requires sitting, standing, walking, or moving throughout the building, often for extended periods of the workday. Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum), verbally communicate, and have vision requirements of near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation, and field vision. Required to move (push, pull, lift, carry, slide) office supplies weighing no more than 45 pounds. Requires use of either hand for fine manipulation, simple grasping, and push/pull functions. Performs a variety of duties. Climbs stairs in and or around the building. May occasionally bend and reach to secure records/files from desk, shelves, and filing cabinets. Requires use of either hand for simple grasping, fine manipulation, and push/pull functions. Subject to inside environmental conditions.
