Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, printed materials and/or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; fumes; and dust. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
Qualifications
Knowledge of Head Start programs, standards and requirements. Ability to help teach classroom lessons. Ability to communicate effectively with small children. Ability to work effectively with parents, students, staff and community agencies to implement programs. Ability to enforce discipline. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently with limited supervision, including high pressure and difficult situations.
Requirements
Requires at least (I) a child development associate credential; (II) enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree; or (III) enrolled in a child development associate credential program to be completed within 2 years.

- Assists teacher in supervising children during instruction; helps develop instructional materials.
- Carries out program activities with small groups of children, including instruction, centers. gross motor skills, play activities, teaching personal hygiene, and social skills.
- Prepares breakfast, lunch and snacks for children during meal time; supervises children during these meals.
- Monitors behavior; enforces disciplinary rules; helps students with personal care and hygiene.
- Makes home visits with teacher.
- Performs other duties as assigned related to the Head Start program.
