Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in real estate, business or public administration, finance or related field; two years of experience in mass appraisal of residential or agricultural properties; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of building and land valuation methods/techniques; real estate technology; analyzing and drawing conclusions from market data; considerable skill in working effectively with local officials, property owners and the general public. Ability to analyze and interpret data/information to determine tax assessment valuations; to interpret, apply and explain laws, regulations and policies related to the assessment function, to read and interpret maps, plans and blueprints. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and perform physical requirements necessary to field inspect properties; to work under pressure; and meet stringent deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both orally and with written correspondence. Excellent research and analytical skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word. Residential Evaluation Specialist (RES), Certified Assessment Evaluator (CAE) or State License preferred.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Appraise residential and agricultural real estate by conducting inspections of new construction and existing properties; perform statistical analysis for the purpose of establishing tax assessments. Prepare reports, review data and other factors affecting the value of property; respond to property owners regarding the appraisal process and assessments. Assist in preparing the documentation of contested assessments. Perform other work as required.

Shift
Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Hybrid work schedule available for remote working 3 days a week and 2 in office days.
