ABOUT THE CLERK’S OFFICE
The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is the administrative arm of the Circuit Court. Our day-to-day operations significantly impact the Chesterfield community. The Clerk’s Office prioritizes accessibility, transparency, effectiveness and being constituent-focused. The staff within the Clerk’s Office are responsible for providing administrative support, record keeping, case management, court-related financial matters, and, most importantly, adhering to the law.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Land Records Division handles the process of obtaining a Marriage License, the recordation, receipting, indexing, and proofreading of Deed Book documents, Judgements, Financing Statements, and more. We are looking to expand the Land Records Division with a friendly, hardworking, individual with efficient time management skills. We are dedicated to teamwork and excellent customer service. Our customers range from Chesterfield residents to attorneys, therefore, being compassionate and knowledgeable of the laws pertaining to our division are key skills that we are looking for in this position. Having three or more years of experience in a court/legal environment or an equivalent combination of training and customer service or other transferable experience is preferred. Our public service hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, and standard employee shift schedules are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, though flex scheduling may be available. Due to the nature of the service, we provide, telework is not an option.
This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide a high volume of customer assistance in person, by phone, and by email.
- Interact with complex computer systems to review, record, index, and proof documents based on statutory requirements.
- Figure, calculate, and collect appropriate fees and taxes.
- Conduct Marriage License appoints and prepare the documents for Vital Records.
- Maintain a helpful, positive attitude with customers and staff.
- Cross-train with and provide support to the Customer Services Team as needed.
- Perform other duties and special projects as necessary.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to research, comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of The Code of Virginia
- High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software and technology.
- Ability to multitask in a busy environment and manage an independent workload.
- Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree in criminal justice/public administration or related field is preferred.
- One year of relevant experience in management of a court/legal environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience in management of a court/legal environment or a related field.
