Minimum Qualifications
Must be a former police officer. No more than a 5 years' break in service preferred. As a former police officer, US citizenship is required, along with a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years. Additionally, applicants must have no convictions of felonies or habitual misdemeanors, and no guilty pleas to misdemeanors involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny, any misdemeanor sex offense, or any domestic assault. Successful candidates will undergo pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background investigation, including the possibility of a polygraph, psychological and medical screening, and education / degree verification. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited . Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education / degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or have been a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years.
Duties
Staff various specialized assignments throughout the department. The present need involves staffing one of four police service desk locations throughout the county. As a part-time Police Specialist assigned to the patrol services bureau, your duties would include but are not limited to, conducting interviews, preparing detailed police reports, and interacting with community members. However, assignment of duties could include, but are not limited to, coordination of off-duty employment; manage police department equipment assigned to police officers; provide supplemental teleservice, crime prevention and court service assistance. Perform other work as required.
